Ayurvedic Lunchbox Ideas


We’ve all been challenged to prepare meals that our kids will actually eat, let alone find something nutritious and fun to pack in their lunchboxes. Since lunch is the time Ayurveda says is best to eat the largest meal of the day, it needs to be filling too.


In Ayurveda, fresh food is the best, so avoid leftovers when possible. That doesn’t mean getting up at 5:00 am every morning to prepare lunch. Hopefully some of the ideas below are quick and easy for you, and healthy and delicious for them.

  • Breads. Choose flatbread, sourdough, or whole-grain breads when you can.

  • Cheese and crackers. Avoid hard cheeses and favor soft fresh cheeses like fresh mozzarella, cottage cheese, paneer or goat cheese.

  • Make pizzas with a flatbread like (ex tortilla or chapati) fresh sauce and fresh mozzarella cheese.

  • When making french fries or baked veggies, bake them in a little olive oil or ghee instead of frying them in another oil.

  • Sandwiches made of vegetables like cucumber, colorful peppers, cheeses.

  • Hummus is a very tasty great source of plant-based protein.

And finally, what kid doesn’t want to find cookies in their lunch? You’ll feel good about packing these delicious gluten-free eggless chocolate chip cookies!
